IT IS ONLY GOD WHO PRESERVES US

 Proverbs 2:10-15, 20-22 (AMPC)
For skillful and godly Wisdom shall enter into your heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant to you.

11 Discretion shall watch over you, understanding shall keep you,

12 To deliver you from the way of evil and the evil men, from men who speak perverse things and are liars,

13 Men who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness,

14 Who rejoice to do evil and delight in the perverseness of evil,

15 Who are crooked in their ways, wayward and devious in their paths.

20 So may you walk in the way of good men, and keep to the paths of the [consistently] righteous (the upright, in right standing with God).

21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the men of integrity, blameless and complete [in God's sight], shall remain in it;

22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.

Dear people of God, it is extremely difficult to grow up as a Christian in a country like Nigeria where the rule of law is virtually non-existent.

Everyone from leaders to the led take laws into their hands; and there is this notion that all you need do is acquire financial resources by whatever means and the law enforcement agents automatically become your ally no matter whatever act you carry out whether legal or illegal.

How does one determine what is right and wrong in such a society? When laws are made, it is an opportunity for law enforcement agents to make money for themselves by actively seeking the law breakers and innocent people to arrest, harass, intimidate and extort money from them.

It is only when there is a public outcry on social media that they behave themselves, only to for one or more of their officers to commit another crime again.

Over the radio sometime in August 2020, I heard the presenter of a program saying someone had sent her via twitter the question paper of the West African Examination Council Mathematics Examination that was yet to commence as of the time of her report.

The brazenness of the action speaks volumes about the society because the sender of that information has taken it for granted that nothing would happen.

How do you rate a society where parents and teachers after exchange of bribe money collaborate to sit and answer beforehand external examination papers and pass on to their children to copy? And even when this report is on social media, nobody from the Ministry of Education to WAEC is bothered about investigating to confirm the authenticity of the report?

All the schools and parents are interested in is to showcase their academic record and for their students to pass by hook and crook.

How do you as a Christian fit into a society where a former petroleum minister ran away to the UK when the succeeding political administration came into office and just few years later, she wanted to return to Nigeria because she has seen that nothing serious was being done to treasury looters of the previous administration of which she was a part, to make them account for their misdeeds?

This same lady was reported to have lamented that youth internet fraudsters in Nigeria were being accorded heroic status amongst their fellow compatriots; she on her own is yet to account for the looting of billions of dollars of the nation’s resources under the administration where she presided over the sale of the nation’s oil wealth.

How does a child determine right from wrong in a society where 99% of employees of the public sector are more interested in using their position to extort and make money from the public than provide service for them?

Even when they write about their services openly and say it is free, the employees who are implementers of the directive still extort money from the public and say it is not free and those who do not pay are bluntly unattended to.

How does a Christian survive in a nation where all manner of legal and illegal levies are imposed by government agencies on the citizens who own businesses and there is no one to take your complaint to because the leaders have turned themselves into demi-gods who are simply unreachable?

As a result of these intimidation, extortion and brazen corruption in every strata of the society, a number of Christians now believe it is right to join the law breakers if it would give them succour from problems these ones have deliberately caused.

Even on the roads, the story is the same, where law enforcement agents, political leaders and the citizens break traffic laws at will and those charged with the responsibility of ensuring there is sanity on the roads are only interested in arresting and extorting money from their “human prey.”

What is interesting and most unfortunate is that these same government agents and employees who deliberately make life difficult for members of the public would after their retirement now be expecting sympathy from these same dehumanized public when their colleagues in active service hold on to their pensions.

How unfortunate.

They forget that it is their actions and inactions whilst in service that is now hunting them many years later. This is one major reason why majority of them engage in brazen embezzlement of the nation’s treasury, in the hope that they would have enough to take care of themselves in their old age whether pension is paid or not.

In all these, there is no consideration or regard whatsoever for God’s commandments in the Holy Bible.

You come to the Ecclesiastical arena, it is the same story. You find clergy men and women who have turned the work of God into a business enterprise for making money and not for telling people the Truth of God’s Word.

Their main area of focus is material prosperity to the detriment of the souls of their Church members.

For fear of losing members and the accompanying financial resources, they refuse to talk to their congregations about sin, repentance, heaven, hell, unrighteousness, judgement, etc.

They only promise them heaven on earth whether their lifestyles are right or not with respect to God’s laws in the Holy Bible. They receive tithes and offerings without first investigating the source of the funds the member is bringing to church.

They organize religious programs that only focus on prosperity without any place given to righteousness and obedience to God’s commandments.

Even if a known financial criminal is their member, they are less concerned as long as the person contributes to the church and when the person dies, they are ready to eulogize the person to the skies even when what they are saying is untrue.

Some of the business owners in a bid to survive are engaged in fraud through importation of substandard products, bribing the customs to clear the substandard goods as well as the government agencies charged with ensuring such goods do not enter the nation.

They then sell the substandard goods to members of the public at a huge profit and go off on the same cycle of fraud over and over again.

In almost every part of the country people are either being abducted for ransom money, ritual killings, rape and outright murder. Ethnic nationalities are fighting each other over the land God freely gave them whilst the political leaders and law enforcement agents are just watching and refusing to do anything concrete to stop it.

In the South West of the country, despite the laws, land grabbers are selling land and stealing it back to resell to others and the original land owners appear helpless. Even when you report this to the law enforcement agents, they are unwilling to do anything about it unless you are either a prominent person or wealthy enough with financial resources to get them to do their work.

Do they not know that they are in that position to secure lives and property of the citizens and that they would give an account of their actions to God?

Dear friend, with what I have just described about the current Nigerian society, you can see that it is very easy for a Christian to be misled into living a life of sin without ever realizing that anything is wrong.

How did we ever get ourselves into this mess where there are no moral values anymore?

Why are people carrying on as if they are not accountable to anyone?

Does God no longer exist again?

My conclusion is that it is very easy to go to an eternal damnation in HELL from the current Nigerian society because there is a spiritual and moral decadence in the entire fabric of society.

One can trace this decadence to the family unit because it all starts from there. Parents have failed in the spiritual upbringing of their kids. Schools have failed in the moral upbringing of their students.

Most importantly, the Church in Nigeria has also failed in pointing their congregation to the way of righteousness according to God’s standards in the Holy Bible.

As a result, innocent children grow up to become spiritually defective youth, spiritually defective adults and the result is what has become today’s Nigeria where good is evil and evil is good, just the kind of society the devil wants to see.

Dear friend, you would do yourself a world of good to read again today’s lead Holy Bible text above.

There is no human being on this earth that will get away with sin against God and injustice against his or her fellow human beings.

It is simply not possible.

We will all give an account to God Almighty and Father of my Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ for our actions and inactions here on earth. Judgement is coming very shortly and I pity those who think otherwise.

If you must survive and thrive successfully against the onslaught of the devil in this society working through those who engage daily in evil, surrendering yourself to the Lordship of Jesus Christ is the ONLY way out.

It is only Jesus Christ that can preserve you against the atrocities committed daily against the citizens of Nigeria by the government and fellow citizens in every sphere of the society.

It is only Jesus Christ that can guide you, lead you and prevent you from joining the fray of evil people when you sincerely, diligently study, meditate and obey His commandments in the Holy Bible.

Dear friend, Jesus Christ is coming shortly to take ONLY those who are qualified according to His righteous standards in the Holy Bible.

Are you living a genuine life as His disciple? Are you ready for Him? Come to Jesus today, for tomorrow may be too late for you.

May the good Lord bless you as you heed His Word today, act on it and share with others in Jesus’ Most Righteous Name, Amen.

Gabriel Ama.
