Today on one of the crime and investigation stations on cable TV I was watching a true story of a man who had killed his spouse and coaxed his kids to tell lies that he was at home during the period of the murder. During the course of the police investigations, it was discovered that the man used to physically assault the lady who eventually moved out of her matrimonial home. The husband started painting a terrible picture of their mum to his kids, stirred hatred of their mum and it was not difficult for him to get them to tell lies to cover up for their father’s misdeeds. The man had told his kids that the reason he wanted them to lie was that the police would arrest him and take him away from them and they would have to live without any parent. However, the police eventually discovered the entire web of lies and deceit; the man was arrested and with evidence he was put away in prison for life. A little while ago I was discussing with my spouse on the importance of one knowing the Lord Jesus Christ at a young age. Most teenagers want freedom to do the things that interest them now without caring a hoot about the consequences of their actions. So for those of them whose parents have not introduced them to the Lord Jesus Christ in their younger ages, it is a constant battle with their parents over doing what is right and keeping from doing what is wrong. However, as they grow older and become parents themselves, some of them learn from their terrible mistakes and realize the value of what their parents were trying to teach them during their teenage years. For some others, their journey continues on a downward spiral until they drop dead either from narcotics and other substance abuse or some terrible accident or street violence. Dear friend, if you came face to face with a gun man who threatened to kill you unless you renounced your Christian faith, what would you do? Would you renounce your faith in Christ just to live for a few more years or months or days on this earth or would you insist on your faith in Christ regardless of the consequences of death staring you right in the face from the barrel of a gun? What if you renounced just to stay alive and the gun man went ahead to shoot you to death, do you think you would make it to heaven? Certainly not, because you have just denied the Master! It is written in 1 Peter 3:15, “ But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy [and acknowledge Him] as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defence to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully.”  The Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 1:21, “ For me to live is Christ [His life in me], and to die is gain [the gain of the glory of eternity]...

Cast your mind back to when you first realized you needed the Lord Jesus Christ as your Messiah. You took a decision to repent sincerely, confessed and forsook your sins with a firm resolve not to go back to sin again. You led a sincere holy life trying your best to live for Christ according to His Word. You went to church regularly and at a time you even began sharing the Gospel about your new found love for Christ with your friends and others who were still in the world and leading a sinful life. Even when those friends made fun of your faith, you never relented. You got instant answers to your prayers and it was all so good. Then suddenly, you have a misfortune that caused a financial or marital or medical setback for you. You then say a prayer and nothing seems to be working. It is as if the Lord Jesus has abandoned you and is unwilling to help you anymore. Friends begin to mock you and ask why are these things happening to you and yet you say you are a Christian?...

As long as someone remains in this world, problems, challenges and issues will arise. For a Christian, it will come and the reason is simple: the devil or satan’s main objective is to get the Christian to doubt the truth of God’s Word, the efficacy of God’s Word and the power of God’s Word to resolve all challenges. So satan will throw all manner of obstacles at a Christian to make him or her develop unbelief. If the Christian unfortunately accepts the obstacles as his fate and begins to question God’s ability to solve his problems, satan becomes very happy because that is what he wants to achieve. Since we know that satan is the cause of the world’s troubles, what are we to do as Christians? We are to focus solely on the truth of God’s Word in the Holy Bible. Sometimes with human beings you hear of a contingency plan or plan B as some call it. What this means is that they have an alternative plan in place just in case the first one fails. That is the imperfection of the human race in this world. However, with God, there is no contingency plan because God does not need one. God knows what will happen one trillion years from today and everything that will happen is laid out according to God’s plan for the entire period. Nothing takes God by surprise and nothing is an emergency for God. That is the perfection of God Almighty and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Dear friend, having this knowledge in mind, who would you rather follow, God or a human? Who would you rather trust, a human or the Almighty God and Creator of the entire universe? Human beings get angry at times. Some are able to control their anger while others explode and do irrational things. In fact, in extreme cases, people have been known to maim or outrightly kill fellow humans in a fit of anger. So, what purpose does anger serve for the person venting it? Anger does not benefit you in any way. First of all it affects your health in negative ways. I had an aunt who once raised an accusation of a missing sum of money she had kept and while in her angry state, she had a heart attack and died as a result. After her burial, the money was found where she had hidden it and forgotten at the time! Secondly, anger opens the door to satan to attack you and cause harm. This is the reason why unsaved people or non-Christians are able to commit atrocious acts in their moments of extreme anger because a demon spirit is urging them to act.
