I asked a friend recently what he thought about single mothers with children and his response was that it was a matter of choice. I then asked him whether it was right for a woman to have children without being married and he said no. What we both agreed eventually was that it was fornication, which the Word of God, the Holy Bible condemns as a sin. Dear friend, there are many reasons married couples separate but in today's post we will look at the one that has to do with submission on the part of the wife. The Bible says in Ephesians 5:22-23, "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Saviour of the body." Many are having increased blood pressure and tension runs in families trying to meet their financial demands. There are several spiritual sins people commit without realizing it, and envy is one of them. An envious person looks at the progress others are making and rather than find out how to go about theirs, they concern themselves with bitterness and resentment towards successful people. Some even go to the extent of planning evil against those they envy and even end up killing them. The first case of envy recorded in human history is the story of Cain and Abel in the Holy Bible. Abel offered the best of his animals to God in sacrifice while Cain, his brother, presented poor quality gifts to God. While God accepted and acknowledged Abel's gifts, He rejected Cain's; Cain became envious and then killed his own brother in the process. Dear friend, we live in a physical world that we see physically, and so many unseen things happen spiritually that we do not see. However, it is pertinent to note that the spiritual world governs the physical world. Ignorance of this fact is what is responsible for the challenges most people face. For Christians who understand this fact, they know what to do but for Christians and non-Christians who are ignorant of this fact, the world can be a daunting challenge for them. The Holy Bible tells us in Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." Dear friend, at times I am baffled by some comments I hear from Christians about issues of life. In Africa, it is common amongst elderly people, especially the womenfolk to believe that when a young lady is of age but not married and is finding it difficult to get a life partner, the "sensible" thing for her to do is to sleep with a man, get pregnant and have a baby to take care of her in her old age. Looking at the Scripture reference in Proverbs 14:12, one can clearly see that such advice to a young unmarried maiden is a way of death. Looking at the advice, we see the under listed issues: (1) Fornication is involved - a sin against God's commands (Hebrews 13:4). (2) What if the lady dies during fornication? While I was growing up in my parents' home, every Christmas, my dad at a point started a tradition of buying a live goat on the eve of Christmas to be slaughtered on December 25 and another live goat on the eve of New Year to be slaughtered on January 1. This was in addition to other goodies we got then as gifts. There was always so much to eat and drink. This was the experience I had in my family home about the season of Christmas and even in today's world, so many people have similar beautiful stories to tell about Christmas. Dear friend, in many parts of the world, people are hustling and bustling trying to raise money to celebrate the Christmas season. Parents want to buy goodies for their kids, companies pay bonuses, and so much love and joy fills the air. This is the good side of Christmas because this happens every year. This is also the material side of Christmas. There is a spiritual side of Christmas, which is the real reason for the event people are celebrating. Christmas is about Christ Jesus, the Messiah and King of the Universe.
